Fiji's tourism minister says the country needs to focus on quality to drive its earnings from visitors.
Faiyaz Koya told an industry event in Natadola yesterday that by providing the best tourism products and services, the sector could achieve the best value.
He said by focusing on yield rather than numbers, tourism could continue to grow sustainably with less pressure on the environment.
Mr Koya said this year was tracking well with first quarter earnings from tourism up 10 percent to US$182.2 million.
But he said tourist numbers in the first quarter only increased by 3.3 percent to 163,226.
With just a month left in the calendar year, Mr Koya said he was confident over 830,000 tourists will visit this year, earning Fiji $FJ1.68 billion in 2017.
