A refugee on Papua New Guinea's Manus Island is rejecting allegations that refugees there are engaged in criminal activities, including luring underage girls for sex.

The Australian Financial Review and Stuff.co.nz have published information from a leaked intelligence cable detailing the behaviour of some refugees, including taking and dealing drugs.

And last night, a former guard told RNZ that he witnessed many episodes of violence, mostly against other detainees.

However, one of the refugees, Yaser, said the allegations against them are unfounded.

"There was a lot of allegations against us but it does not have any justification to prove it, like people who are being accussed of raping a lot of ladies but when we ask for a medical report or other things, they don't have that."

Yaser said any allegations should be considered by an independent investigation.
