The Asian Development Bank is providing US$15 million worth of grants and loans to help Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu develop their disaster resilience.
Both Samoa and Tonga will get loans of $US3.1 million and grants of $US2.9 million, while Tuvalu will receive a grant of $US3 million.
An ADB climate change specialist, Hanna Uusimaa, said the programme would facilitate faster recovery and reconstruction and significantly reduce the costs caused by delays after a disaster.
The ADB has already supported a similar programme in the Cook Islands.
