The men are reported to be dangerous and were among a group of Bomana jail inmates awaiting court appearances for offences including armed robbery and murder.
The National Capital District's police chief Perou N'Dranou told the Post Courier he had not been updated on whether any of the escapees had been caught.
The four were reportedly among six people who made a run for it when guards were locking the holding cells at the Waigani court.
Two were recaptured near the cells.
