Samoa is contending with increased plastic pollution and debris, which is becoming more visible on beaches and roadsides.

The Association's Managing director Marina Keil said it wasn't just Samoa's environment that people needed to think of, but the wider Pacific with fish species being affected.

Ms Keil said the newly-established association would work on plans targeting plastic waste, while keeping an eye on Vanuatu's progress.

"It'll be very interesting to see what type of feedback and what are the issues that they face in this time period of banning the plastic. At the end of the day, it's about our environment and about the health of our well-being and I think it will take time for the Samoan people to adapt."
