American Samoa Election Office gets grant

The US Election Assistance Commission is awarding a grant of US$600,000 to the American Samoa Election Office.

The funds must be used for the purpose of ensuring secure elections and making improvements, such as enhanced technology, replacing voter equipment, and preventing cyber intrusion.

The grant would be made available upon completion of application requirements by the American Samoa Government Election Office.

American Samoa's Congresswoman Aumua Amata said in announcing the funding that trustworthy elections are the foundation of the entire democratic system.

The next general election for American Samoa is November this year, and Aumua Amata has already declared her interest for re-election.
