Lolo said the US departments of State and Homeland Security had raised concern about protecting official correspondence from being compromised.

The governor said there was also worry about communication links through Fiji, which was why he didn't join the US territory to the Tui Samoa under sea cable.

Lolo said a recent congressional delegation that was touring Australia and New Zealand stopped from going to Fiji due to fears regarding the security of its communications.

The governor said he has instructed all government departments, agencies and authorities to only use systems of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority.
