People from six Pacific countries are to take part in a physical training instructor's course conducted by the New Zealand Defence Force this month.
The four-week course in Suva will train students from Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Tonga.
They include military, police and corrections staff.
Instructors from the New Zealand and Australian defence forces will be taking the course at the Fiji Police Academy in Fiji's capital.
The New Zealand Defence Force said the newly qualified instructors will return to their countries equipped with the skills to instruct their own forces in physical training, improving their fitness and health.
New Zealand's Defence Attache to Fiji, Lieutenant Colonel Josh Wineera, said this was the first time such a programme had been run.
"The NZDF instructors are experienced in training people of all levels in our Defence Force, from new recruits through to extremely fit soldiers training for specific situations," he said.
"They bring with them transferable skills that can easily be applied to course participants."
