French Polynesia's ruling Tapura Huiraatira is projected to win the territorial election.

Projections given at the close of polls give the Tapura more than 50 percent of the vote.

The figure has dropped slightly to below 49 percent.

With the 19 bonus seats going to the list coming first, the party led by Edouard Fritch is bound to increase its majority.

The projections also suggest the Tahoearaa Huiraatira will come second with about 30 percent, with the remainder of the votes going to the Tavini Huiraatira Party.

Turnout is at 67 percent.

The 57-seat assembly is being elected for a five-year term.
