The airline Frenchbee has launched its service to French Polynesia.
The Paris-based budget airline has flown an Airbus 350-900 on its inaugural flight from France via San Francisco.
More than 300 passengers were on the plane, carrying media and the airline's head Marc Rochet.
Frenchbee will have two flights a week between Paris and Papeete.
It says it had sold 40,000 tickets before the inaugural flight.
The carrier is the third to connect Tahiti with the US mainland.
Later this year, United plans to also open a service between California and Papeete.
