An author promoting literacy and language in Palau has received a US Young Pacific Leaders grant to publish and distribute a colourful children's book written in the Palauan language.
Author and youth leader Joleen Ngoriakl said there were few children's books written in her indigenous language.
Her book explores diversity and acceptance when a boy first attends school, Ms Ngoriakl said.
The world had may different peoples and it was important for children to learn this at a young age, she said.
"Now that I am a mother, and I realise that I want my child to read a book that's captivating and colourful and written in a way that captures the imagination and that is why this project is important, because I want to open that world up, not just for my son, but a lot of children across Palau."
Ms Ngoriakl said the funding would help her publish and distribute 1000 copies of the book, which included some English subtitles.
