The repaired Instrument Landing System at Pago Pago international airport, which guides landings and take offs at Tafuna in American Samoa, did not pass a flight check conducted last week.
The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Ian Gregor said the system appeared to be working as intended after technicians installed it but it didn't pass the flight check.
A new crew of FAA technicians is scheduled to arrive next week to review the gear and another flight check would be conduced once that is done, he said.
Hawaiian Airlines has said that until the system is approved, it will only have daylight flights.
