American Samoa's governor has established a task force to stop illegal chemicals from entering the territory.
Lolo Matalasi Moliga has given the Chemical Review Task Force 90-days to find ways of preventing the importation of harmful chemicals and fertilisers.
Lolo says American Samoa's inability to determine health hazards from these substances is unacceptable.
The eight member task force is headed by the Department of Agriculture director, Filifaatali Mike Fuiava.
Filifaatali will be responsible for ensuring all chemical and fertiliser imports meet local and federal standards.
