Leaders of American Samoa's legislature are calling a meeting this week to discuss how to proceed on the construction of the new Fono building.
The House speaker Savali Talavou Ale said he and the Senate president want to hear first from the public works director Faleosina Voigt about options to address concerns raised by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The agency is concerned the building does not have the piles or piers which are standard for a flood zone area.
It's warned American Samoa could lose out on funding in disasters if future as it risks being suspended from the Flood Disaster Protection Act.
