The European Union initiative is being run by Pasifika Communications and its head Dale Hermanson said entries can be between one and five minutes long.

He said there are cash prizes for the winners and the competition is open to young people from 15 Pacific countries.

"The age range goes from 10 to 35 so definitely it's more of a younger group we're trying to get. And it really is an opportunity for younger people to have their voices heard in terms of climate change.

"I think the European Union has convened a lot of meetings around the region and we hear a lot from leaders on climate change. This is an opportunity for younger people to have their voices heard as well.

Dale Hermanson said the deadline for entries is 1 April and more information can be found on the website.
