French Polynesia's health authorities have suggested setting up additional rehabilitation services for those recovering from addictions.
The health ministry has proposed providing a centre where a number of specialists help people overcome alcohol and drug problems.
The plan is to assist people after an initial hospital stay and to treat them comprehensively to facilitate their return to a healthy life.
The ministry says in case patients refuse hospital care, treatment and supervision could be provided at their home.
It also suggests having mobile medical teams who could attend to those without fixed abode.
