Tuvalu has become the newest member of development organisation the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The IFC is a member of the World Bank Group and works with businesses worldwide to create markets and opportunities for its members.
Tuvalu's deputy prime minister, Maatia Toafa, attended the signing ceremony in Washington DC.
He said he hoped the IFC would provide Tuvalu with the necessary technical assistance and investment to help achieve the development aspirations of the Tuvalu people.
Tuvalu launched its first private sector development plan last year and the IFC plans to begin work to help Tuvalu implement it.
