New Zealand has appointed Phillip Taula as the new high commissioner to Papua New Guinea.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters, who has committed New Zealand to the so called Pacific Reset, says Mr Taula's experience provides superb preparation for this fresh approach to the region.
Mr Taula's previous roles include being a deputy permanent representative to New Zealand's UN mission in New York.
There, his role involved close engagement with Pacific missions and other Small Island Developing States.
Mr Taula also served as New Zealand's acting head of mission in Fiji, from 2010 to 2013.
