Police have executed the biggest drug bust in Samoan history at Faleatiu, seizing about 10,000 marijuana plants, firearms, methamphetamine, ammunition and cash.
Friday's operation led to an armed standoff but ended without any weapons being fired and six suspects being arrested including two women and escaped prisoner, Uili Manuleleua, the Samoa Observer reports.
Police Commissioner Fuiavailiili Egon Keil led the operation along with about 100 officers.
Fuiavailiili said they would not have collected so much marijuana if it wasn't for the use of a drone to conduct visual surveillance of the area.
The police are yet to give an estimated value on the items seized but the Commissioner said it was the largest drug seizure in local history.
The commissioner said another prison escapee, Suitupe Faamoe Paufa, was seen by police but managed to evade authorities along with another suspect.
