A man has been taken in for questioning in French Polynesia over his possible role in this year's first fatal road accident.
A six-year-old girl died of her injuries after she fell with her father riding a scooter in Paea.
There was a suggestion a car was involved in the incident and that the driver fled the scene.
Police appealed for witnesses and a man who is the suspected driver, was subsequently detained.
Reports say he had no driver's licence.
The girl, who died on the way to hospital, was wearing a helmet but reports say it wasn't of an approved type.
Her father suffered serious injuries.
