The French High Commission in New Caledonia has issued a territory-wide ban on the sale of alcohol for this Saturday and Sunday.
In a statement it says this is to avoid any risk that there will be trouble.
The restrictions however exempt hotels and dedicated wine shops.
Because of the Covid-19 outbreak, people have to stay home and are only allowed to be in public with an attestation justifying their movement.
These restrictions will lapse on Sunday at midnight.
