After the 12th elimination of what could be as many as 24, Toroama has 31,600 votes, a lead that's just shy of ten thousand over second placed Simon Dumarinu.
Next comes Thomas Raivet, Peter Tsiamalili and Fidelis Semoso.
To win the presidency a candidate needs more than 50 percent of the vote - at this stage a tally of 71,444.
Toroama, who came second in the presidential vote to John Momis in 2015, is a former commander of the Bougainville Revolutionary Army.
