The Tahiti postal service says it's working to deliver more than six months mail backlog.
A container with about 1000 mail bags arrived in the capital, Papeete, by ship on Friday.
The mail had been stuck in various countries in Asia and the Pacific after borders were closed and flights cancelled earlier in the year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Director of Fare Rata, Tahiti's postal service, Benjamin Teihotu, said high demand on maritime freight services caused major delays in getting the mail to Tahiti.
Postal workers now had more than six tonnes of packages to process.
It was expected to take up to three months.
The service expected further delays with mail arriving in the country as long as air traffic schedules remained affected by Covid-19 measures.
