The Vanuatu Cricket Association has appointed Ben Cameron as its new high performance manager and national head coach.
The 41-year-old represented South Australia 19 times and began coaching in 2007 after being forced to retire from playing due to a chronic knee condition.
Cameron has experience leading premier club teams in Adelaide and was recently a talent and coaching specialist for the South Australian Cricket Association where he was in charge of the 2nd XI and various other squads.
He will relocate to Vanuatu in April and will be joined by his wife and two young children later in the year.
"The experience and knowledge gained from leading cricket programmes for close to 15 years has allowed me to develop a strong understanding of what is required to be successful in high performance sport," Cameron said.
"I'm looking forward to sharing these experiences with coaching staff and players in the national programmes, while working hard with CEO Tim Cutler on strategies to continue developing strength in Vanuatu Cricket.
"It is an exciting prospect for my family to immerse ourselves into the Vanuatu culture and develop strong relationships with the VCA staff, players and people throughout the Vanuatu community."
Cameron's appointment continues a period of rapid change for Vanuatu Cricket. Former Australian Under-19 international Simon Keen was appointed to both roles at the start of 2020 but resigned a short time after due to the impacts of Covid-19.
Former Ireland international Jeremy Bray came on board last year but resigned in January, with former Vanuatu international Eddie Mansale filling the role in an acting capacity over the last few months.
Vanuatu Cricket CEO Tim Cutler welcomed Cameron to the Vanuatu Cricket family.
"Like many in the emerging cricket sphere, this role requires strength across a variety of skillsets, and with Ben's balance of experience, attitude, and approach to the game, we are very excited to see what the VCA's cricket programmes can achieve under his leadership."
The Vanuatu men's team have a busy year on the cards with four international tournaments planned in the back-half of 2022: including the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League, the regional qualifiers for the 2024 T20 World Cup and a 20-team event hosted in the West Indies and US.
