New Caledonia pro-independence activist dies

One of the founding members of the FLNKS and the union USTKE, Louis Kotra Uregei has died.

After a battle with a long illness the pro-independence activist died aged 71 in France.

Uregei was part of the signatory committee of the Matignon Accords of 1988.

In 1981, he founded the Union of Kanak Workers and the Labour Party in 2007.

He sat in the New Caledonian Congress between 2009 and 2019.

Many members of the FLNKS have sent their condolences for the efforts Uregei made for the pro-independence movement.
