Samoa's Head of State, O le Ao o le Malo, Tuimaleali'ifano Va'aleto'a Sualauvi II, is in Aotearoa for an official visit this week.

Tuimaleali'ifano and his delegation were welcomed onto the grounds of Government House in Wellington by an official powhiri on Tuesday.

He and his wife are being hosted by New Zealand's Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro and her husband, Dr Richard Davies.

Tuimaleali'ifano also carried out an inspection of a guard of honour made up of New Zealand Defence Force.

A 21 gun salute was held in his honour.

Tuimaleali'ifano also met students from Naenau Primary School Tava'e, the first Samoan bilingual unit in Wellington.

On Wednesday, he will lay a wreath at the Pukeahu National war memorial park's Pacific Island Memorial.
