Boxing: Fiji's Kauyaca set to fight New Zealand cruiserwight champion Parker

Fijian cruiserweight boxing champion Alivereti Kauyaca has been offered the biggest fight of his life, a September date against New Zealand cruiserweight champion John Parker.

Parker is the younger brother of Joseph Parker, the world fourth ranked best heavyweight at the moment.

Kauyaca and Parker will battle for the WBO Oceania cruiserweight title in Hamilton on 7 September.

Kauyaca's trainer/manager Farmaan Ali said they are excited about the opportunity and are preparing accordingly to get Kauyaca ready.

"Fighting John is great opportunity for us," he said.

"Parker brand is up there in the world, so we have to prepare well to match him."

Promoter Craig Thomson confirmed the September fight and said it will be a big opportunity for the Fijian champion.

"Biggest fight of his career and Fiji," he said.

To prepare for John, Kauyaca has a fight confirmed in Auckland on 10 August.

That will see the boxer take on Remus Leaf.

Leaf is an MMA, boxer and kickboxer.

It wil be Kauyaca's first international fight and Alis aid Leaf will be a tough opponent

"He has fought many corporate boxing matches in New Zealand and some corporate boxers in here are far better than pro boxers in Fiji," Ali said from Auckland.

He said Kauyaca is preparing well to face Parker, with he Leaf fight as his warm-up.

"He has been preparing well as he knows this will be his first fight overseas," he said.

"The aim is to prepare well in all aspects. He is training well in Fiji and will spend a week training in New Zealand."

Ali said Kauyaca has been given the okay by the Boxing Commission of Fiji to fight in New Zealand.
