Fijian heavyweight boxer James Singh is set to face his biggest test in the ring when he takes on Australia's promising heavyweight Teremoana Jnr in a Matchroom Boxing event in Sydney on Saturday.
Singh, known as 'The Beast,' Fiji's heavyweight division champion and stepped up to fight Teremoana on two weeks' notice, who is on a six-win knockout streak.
Teremoana, who has Cook Islands heritage, is an Australian Olympian and 2023 Pacific Games gold medalist.
He signed with Matchroom Boxing in November 2024 and is regarded as a "rising heavyweight sensation".
Singh said at the pre-fight press conference on Thursday that he is aware of critics saying that it will be a "walk in the park" for his opponent.
"I know that he is a tough opponent and I am coming for him," he said.
The fight is one of the main undercards in the George Kambosos Jr vs Jake Wylie event, which is being billed as a "blockbuster".
It will be held at Qudos Bank Arena.
Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddy Hearn said Singh "is the man" to test Teremoana.
"We want someone to stand up to Teremoana and test the chin as well," he said.
Singh has had 20 professional career fights.
He has 12 wins and five losses. He is yet to defeat an overseas opponent, according to BoxRec.
His last bout in his hometown of Nadroga in August 2024 was declared a 'no contest' after both him and his opponent, Semi Dauloloma, were disqualified for being engaged in a free-for-all brawl.
The Fiji Sun newspaper reports that the fight against Teremoana could "be a career breakthrough is he wins".
