The lawyer for a Kiribati man who lost his bid to be regarded as a climate change refugee says his client is struggling on Tarawa.
Ioane Teitiota was deported from New Zealand in September after fighting to stay in the country since overstaying his visa in 2011.
Michael Kidd told Koro Vaka'uta that Mr Teitiota, his wife and three New Zealand born children, are struggling.
MICHAEL KIDD: He's got no work and there's no welfare system there. He is staying with his brother-in-law with his kids. I believe one of the kids is going to school. I don't hear much of them because there is no real widespread internet access there. They want me to follow up with the former president of East Timor Ramos Horta, who I understand is a delegate to the United Nations. He has offered residency there. We will follow that up and we will also put in the complaint to the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations. Photo: RNZ / Lauren Baker
