AMATUS DOUW: The mobile BRIMOB (mobile police units) came with them and without asking, without advocating the issue, they just shoot and shoot, uncompromised.
SALLY ROUND: And the villagers were angry - they confronted the workers and took one hostage - the police said. Is that correct?
AD: They never took a hostage - either mobile police or company workers. It's absolutely wrong. My family told me that they never (took a) hostage of mobile police or company workers.
SR: The police also said they were attacked by rocks and arrows and that's why they responded with warning shots. Is that correct?
AD: It is not correct. My family only respond with stones, without bows, arrows or weapons - just with small rocks. It's part of their emotional expression. Because the men have already died. If the company had helped them already, I don't think so.
SR: We've also heard that the local parliament of the Deiyai area has called for the arrest of the officers involved in the shooting?
AD: Yes, I've heard that they make a very strong statement to the Indonesian military authority and police authorities to remove the mobile police from their regency, their district.
SR: Is that unusual for them to make that call?
AD: It is. But this is the first time ever they have made a statement like this by the Parliament. They are the district Parliament. I've never heard of that before. I know that the killing of the young generation of West Papuans is evidence and true of racial genocide of West Papuans and I believe that this is part of the Indonesians systematic genocide of West Papua.
SR: When you spoke to your family - your friends in the village - what was their reaction to this? How are they feeling?
AD: They are really sad and they are very worried. They believe in the future it will also happen [again]. Beacause Indonesian military repressively treat the West Papuans So they are very worried. They say that 'we will not live'...until the international governments help them out.
