The powerhouse of tuna fishing in the Pacific, the Parties to the Nauru Agreement, or PNA, is holding just its second leaders summit since inception in 1982.

The meeting in the Marshall Islands brings together leaders of the eight member nations who jointly control about 30 per cent of the world's tuna supply.

Our Marshall Island's correspondent Giff Johnson says it's been eight years since the last leaders summit.

Mr Johnson told Koro Vaka'uta the summit could empower the PNA to follow its own conservation regime.
