An analyst of Pacific issues says New Zealand and Australia are turning deaf ears on calls for more independent media in the region.
Both countries have rolled out new funding as part of their Pacific Reset and 'step up' initiatives, including more support to media in the Pacific.
On Thursday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said his government would expand Australian commercial TV into the Pacific.
And earlier this month, RNZ Pacific revealed New Zealand will use a new dedicated TV channel for the Pacific to promote its investment in the region.
Analyst Tess Newton-Cain, of TNC Consulting, told Mackenzie Smith that neither plan was answering calls from the Pacific.
