The growing demographic of New Zealand's Pacific population is changing the definition of 'cultural competency' in the workforce, according to a Tongan Psychiatrist.
Dr Siale 'Alo Foliaki has spent 20 years working in the mental health sector and he says while there is now a record number of Pacific workers, being Pacific is not enough.
Government figures show 62 percent of Pacific Islanders are now born in New Zealand and a growing number of them are of mixed descent.
He spoke to Indira Stewart at the recent Pasifika Medical Association Conference.
