CNMI company to buy new generator to deal with power emergency

The power company in the Northern Marianas is expected to fork out for a new generator for Rota, as the island experiences rolling blackouts this week.

On Friday, the Commonwealth Utilities Corporations declared an emergency situation on Rota, saying only one generator was still functioning.

The island has experienced several power outages in the past few months, as its power plant's ageing generators run into trouble.

Our correspondent in the Northern Marianas, Mark Rabago, explained to Mackenzie Smith what led to the latest outages.
