The Lae MP John Rosso says the city has to look at alternative energy sources after years of blackouts due to an unreliable electricity system running on heavy fuel oil.
Environmentalists have warned it will pollute and harm local communities, and add to climate catastrophe.
Mr Rosso told Johnny Blades his primary interest is ensuring Lae gets a reliable, adequate and safe power supply.
