An upcoming show in the Auckland Fringe Festival aims to engage Pasifika audiences by telling traditional stories through a contemporary lens.
Māui uses dance, music and physical theatre to tell stories that have traveled throughout the Pacific for hundreds of years.
Choreographer Hadleigh Pouesi told Tim Glasgow while it was originally inspired by the Māori story of Māui and and the sun, it also includes other Pacific parables and incorporates Pasifika notions of the Māui legend.
