Cooks aims to ensure P doesn't get a foothold

From , 5:02 am on 10 June 2019

There is a growing push in the Cook Islands to ensure the country doesn't experience drug problems to the extent of some neighbouring Pacific states.

The opposition Democratic Party and the country's traditional chiefs want authorities to make moves so methamphetamine doesn't win a strong foothold in the Cooks.

The Cook Islands police have refused to answer questions on the matter but last week New Zealand Police Minister Stuart Nash offered them assistance, if needed, to deal with drug issues.

Publisher of the Cook Islands News, John Woods, is working with a group of concerned citizens who also want to see action taken.

Don Wiseman asked him how bad the situation is at present.
