Call to action over loss of PNG cultural sites

From , 3:02 pm on 28 June 2019

Wilson Thompson, the president of the Papua New Guinea Farmers and Settlers Association, is angry at the country's failure to look after its historic and cultural sites.

Mr Thompson has served on many of the boards and trusts of cultural institutions, such as the National Museum & Art Gallery, the National Cultural Centres Trust, the National Cultural Commission and the National Research Institute.

But he says he is dismayed at the lack of action by relevant agencies despite reports and inquiries coming from the Ombudsman Commission, the Auditor General and the Public Accounts Committee.

Mr Thompson says he is very concerned about the disregard shown to the former colonial hospital which later became the first legislature.
