The new executive director of the Pacific Islands Association for Non-Governmental Organisations says civil society is still being excluded from regional policy and decision making.
This week 'Emeline Siale Ilolahia, a long time Tongan civil society leader, took over the reins of the association from Emele Duituturaga.
Ms Ilolahia says although there have been some improvements in political and private sector recognition of Pacific civil societies, most development and policy decisions are still made without their input.
She told Koroi Hawkins a new approach is needed to ensure the views and concerns of indigenous communities and marginalised groups are heard.
