A Fijian has been appointed to spearhead the development and promotion of Kiribati as the region's newest tourism destination.
Petero Manufolau says the Kiribati government has recognised sustainable tourism as a potential contributor towards the island's economic progress.
He says to achieve this, he must help the locals understand what the industry is about and convince the private sector to come onboard.
Mr Manufolau only arrived in the Kiribati capital three weeks ago but tells Christine Rovoi he's already feeling at home in Tarawa.
