A Solomon Islands opposition MP says his country's hasty decision to switch diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China is regrettable.
Peter Kenilorea Junior is the chair of the Foreign Relations Committee in Solomon Islands parliament
The committee had yet to complete a public inquiry into the merits of making the China switch when the Solomons' cabinet endorsed the move.
Mr Kenilorea Junior says the government's hasty decision-making triggered Taiwan's pre-emptive severance of ties between the two countries this week.
He told Koroi Hawkins there is a lot of discontent over the move in Solomon Islands because the government did not allow time for wider public consultations.
