The humanitarian aid agency, World Vision, has been making preparations in the Southwest Pacific for the cyclone season.

New Zealand's atmospheric science agency NIWA is predicting nine to 12 tropical cyclones in the Southwest Pacific basin by the end of April next year.

World Vision's Vanuatu-based programme quality manager, Chloe Morrison, says they have been working to ready communities and help them mitigate the impact of potential disasters.

World Vision supported more than 180 households recently affected by the Ambae volcano evacuation in Vanuatu, with hippo rollers - a safe and effective way for families to collect and store water.
