The Solomon Islands' police force has endorsed a three year gender strategy to guide its commitment to advancing the role of women within the organisation.
Although today only 24 percent of the over 1600 officers in the force are women it is a big improvement over previous years.
The new gender strategy aims to increase both the number of women and their participation in leadership in the years ahead.
To help implement the strategy a long serving female officer, Senior Sergeant Alice Roteku, has been promoted to a new role of gender co-ordinator.
Senior Sergeant Roteku spoke with reporter Koroi Hawkins about the new strategy.
