The Pacific Community or SPC's annual tuna tagging expedition is underway in the central Pacific.
The seven week research mission is monitoring the health of the largest tuna fishery in the world, one that is hugely vital to the economic wellbeing of Pacific Islands countries.
SPC principal fisheries scientist, Dr Simon Nicol, says the data provided by tagging allows them to monitor tuna populations through time and so establish whether various species are being fished sustainably.
