Women's advocate in Bougainville calls for action over sorcery

From , 5:02 am on 23 November 2020

There are concerns in Bougainville that police are doing little to end violence that is blamed on sorcery.

In the most recent attack in Bana district in south Bougainville two men were hacked to death and several people made homeless after their homes were burnt down.

Members of a rival clan were behind the attack, accusing the two men of having used sorcery against them.

The Director of the Leitana Nehan Women's Development Agency, Helen Hakena, told Don Wiseman police are not doing enough to overcome the sorcery violence.
