A well known New Zealand businessman with close links to the Cook Islands is planning to launch an airline to fly to Rarotonga from Christchurch and Wellington.
The tourism dependent Cook Islands have been completely shut out of the visitor market since March, because of Covid-19, but New Zealand has committed this week to creating a bubble in the first quarter of next year.
Mike Pero's Pasifika Air is aiming to have his single aircraft flying by May or June.
Don Wiseman asked him what prompted the move at such a precarious time.
