Papua New Guinea's government has again been urged by the international community to address gender-based violence and other persistent human rights problems.
PNG recently appeared before the United Nations Human Rights Council for its Universal Periodic Review.
As well as its record on gender-based violence, concern was voiced over PNG's retention of the death penalty, and laws that criminalise same sex relations.
Stephanie McLennan of Human Rights Watch spoke to Johnny Blades who began by asking if PNG's lack of women in politics was a sign of it going backwards on gender issues.
