Pacific customs agencies urged to use smallcraft tracking app

From , 6:00 am on 10 February 2022

The Oceania Customs Organisation is encouraging more of its members in the region to make use of its application for tracking small craft in the region to help build up a data base and support safety and security operations in the Pacific.

The development of the app began prior to the start of the pandemic in response to a noted gap in the monitoring of small craft activity in the region and given a projected increase at the time of small craft activity in the region.

Called the OCO Small Crafts Application it was in the process ofbeing rolled out just as the pandemic started and despite a decrease in vessel movements because of border restrictions has been instrumental in helping Pacific Island countries share and compare data on the vessels that are still out there.

With me to talk more about it is Irma Daphne Stone, operation manager for the Oceania Customs Operation based in Suva, Fiji.

Bula vinaka Irma tell us more about this app and what it does?
