Cook Islands confident of preventing major Covid-19 outbreak

From , 6:01 am on 19 February 2022

The Cook Islands government is confident it is doing enough to catch any community spread of Covid-19 and will continue allowing travellers into the country so long as people test negative prior to departure.

Rarotonga reported its first positive infection on Sunday and since then two other close contacts have tested positive - the trio travelled from Auckland, New Zealand.

Eleisha Foon spoke with Secretary of Health Bob Williams who says they are monitoring those in quarantine over the coming days and continue to test the general wider population.
