Analysis of ancient DNA has shown that the Micronesians came from East Asia and Polynesia more than 3,000 years ago.
New insights have been from research by academics at the University of Hawaii.
One anthropology emeritus professor, Michael Pietrusewski, explained to Don Wiseman what they found.
